I've been taking Sadie to the baseball field behind the Lutheran school lately to practice some "off-leash" obedience. It's a huge area, and not entirely fenced in, and so far she hasn't made any escape. I've even let her walk out the gate to get in the car two times with no leash at all. Now that's an accomplishment. So last night she turned up this tiny little bouncy ball and began tossing it up in the air and catching it over and over again. I was thoroughly amused by her interest and skill with this little rubber ball. At some point, however, she lost control of the ball and it buried itself in a thick pile of freshly mown weeds. She spent about 30 seconds diligently searching for it before I caved in and retrieved it for her. Immediately she resumed her catch-and-release routine. I decided I had to pocket this new treasure for future entertainment around the house. It's now our new favorite toy. I can bounce it all around the room and she'll keep chasing it like a kitten. It's very entertaining. I just hope she doesn't decide to eat it some day.
I was also amazed when we left her home for 2 hours tonight with an open sack of chocolate candy bars sitting right on the floor in Lori's room. I thought for sure she'd have finished it off by the time we got back and I'd have to cancel my weekend plans to watch over my sick dog. I was pleasantly surprised when we returned home to find the candy untouched. Attagirl, Sadie!
